Everyone always asks “who are the Smith Brothers”, well they are Kirk and Kelly’s two boys Kirby and Konar. Kirby has been playing baseball for [13 + years.] He is an all-round solid baseball player who is passionate about his game. He started playing for Angus when he was 4 years old and moved to Barrie to play rep Baseball when he was nine. Two years ago Kirby played for an elite team the Georgian Bay Giants that was part of the Western New York Boys of Summer League. There was a lot of traveling to the US and many tournaments in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Last year Kirby returned to the Barrie Red Sox where they had an extremely strong team and had a great year. Kirby is a catcher, first baseman and pitcher. Kirby is in Grade Ten at Bear Creek and he played on the varsity baseball team for the last two years. Kirby is the first line catcher for the team. Kirby has now signed a two year contract to play for the Oakville Royals starting last September. The Oakville Royals are part of the Premier Baseball League of Ontario. He did his spring training in Florida with the Royals over the March break where they were able to face some exciting US talent and played 6 games of baseball. They are currently in their season play which ends the end of June. They will then be going on a three week road trip thru the US to play in a number of baseball tournaments.
Kirby also has his umpire card and spent a summer umpiring games for Angus Minor Baseball and is currently umpiring for New Lowell Minor Baseball. Kirby is a 6’ and 205 lbs teenager who is passionate about the game and loves to share his passion. He is anxious to head up a team in the new T-Ball league to teach others what he has learned at this new facility.
Konar has been playing baseball for 9 going on 10 years. Konar started when he was 5 again in Angus. Konar also left Angus for a more challenging game, and found that with the Barrie Red Sox’s Rep team. Konar is currently in his fifth year playing for the Red Sox. Konar’s team took the York Simcoe Championship in 2008 and again last year 2010. They were third in the all Ontario Champion games in both 2008 and 2009. Last year they took home the silver medal for all of Ontario. Konar has been training this past winter with the Oakville Royals.
Konar too is very passionate about baseball. He lives breaths and dreams baseball. Every school project or essay he has to write is about baseball. Konar is very excited about the opening of the new facility and also having his own T-Ball team to pass on his knowledge. Konar is a pitcher and centre fielder. The odd game you may find him on first base. Konar is amazing with children and will be a great asset to the facility.
